On Wednesday, the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) sent over a referral for a client in Bergen County. I immediately took on the case and contacted the client, who was only available to complete an intake on Monday, June 2, 2025. During the intake, I quickly learned that we were racing against the clock—her housing court date was scheduled for just two days later, on Wednesday, June 4. Without immediate intervention, she risked losing her home and facing homelessness with her 3-year-old son.
Recognizing the urgency, I acted quickly. I immediately contacted my direct liaison at the CFA, to request expedited processing of her rental assistance application. Despite the short timeframe, we worked in close coordination to make the impossible happen.
The client had managed to save over $3,000 to contribute toward her rental arrears, but she still needed additional support to cover the full amount. Thanks to the incredible efforts of the dedicated team at the CFA, we were able to secure a settlement in court that ensured the remaining balance would be paid off by Friday, June 13, 2025.
The outcome was a tremendous success. Our client was able to remain in her home with her young son, and she expressed immense gratitude for the swift, compassionate support she received. What could have ended in crisis was instead transformed into a story of hope, collaboration, and resilience—all achieved in just 48 hours.
